D’banj makes U.S. debut at Live Nation hosted concert – February 19, 2012
Recently signed to Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music label, Nigerian artist D’banj will perform for the first time in New York City on February 19, 2012. Presented by LiveNation at Irving Plaza, the “D’banj LIVE in NYC” concert will also feature several of Nigeria’s top music artists as well as special guests.
With a 2011 BET Music Award for Best International Artist and over 150,000 twitter followers D’banj is one of Africa’s biggest music acts and has played a major role in re-defining Nigeria’s local music scene. LiveNation’s “D’banj LIVE in NYC” concert will introduce New York to the new sounds of Nigeria and Africa. Other performers include D’banj’s Nigerian label mates Dr. Sid, D’Prince, K-Switch and Wande Coal, all signed to Mo’Hits Records.
The concert will take place on Sunday, February 19 at 8pm at Irving Plaza located at 17 Irving Plaza on the corner of 15th Street. Tickets are $39.50 and are on sale online here

Rwanda partners with Carnegie Mellon university to establish tech-savvy institution
As part of her quest to move from an agricultural-based economy to a knowledge-based economy, Rwanda has welcome Carnegie Mellon University to establish an annex in the country to boost the development of Information Communication Technology (ICT).
The university which will operate in Kigali will offer a Master of Science programme. It will focus on research incubators, training for executives and a mobile research center plans to expand to electrical and computer engineering in the next few years.
Carnegie Mellon is the first U.S research-based institution in Africa to offer an in-country presence. It established the annex with the belief that Africa can become an information based economy.
The university will be fully funded by the Rwanda government while the Dean of Engineering at Carnegie Mellon, Pradeep Khosla, stated that ‘the university name, reputation, pedagogy and faculty- is their contribution.

The Afar people live primarily in Ethiopia and the areas of Eritrea, Djibouti and Somalia-can in the Horn of Africa. Their land is mainly rocky and desert terrain. The Afar people also live in the Awash Valley and the forests located in northern Djibouti. There are approximately 3 million people that make up the Afar culture.
